THREE TEXAS TOWNS

March 25, 2025 - 8:30am - 5:00pm

Visit three Texas towns all located along a 32 mile stretch of US82 just south of the Red River, but all with very different histories.

Nocona, Texas

Founded in 1887, the new town was named "Nocona" in honor of Peta Nocona, the Comanche Indian chief. The same year the Justin Boot Factory moved from 15 miles north on the Red River to Nocona to be closer to the railroad. Thus began the 135 year link between the town of Nocona and the best known western boots ever made.

saint jo, texas

Saint Jo has an historical town square the is virtually unchanged in 140 years! Today, the buildings on the square house an excellent locally curated museum of the early days of Saint Jo, plus art galleries, restaurants, and a military ordnance museum!

muenster, texas

Founded by German Catholic immigrants in 1889, the town has a population of 1,500 people today, the great majority of which are descendants that have retained their German Catholic heritage. That is evident by the presence of Fischer's Market, open 97 years ago, and still has a large selection of German meats, cheeses and other items, many of which are sold in specialty stores across America,

bonus - lindsey, texas

Closely tied to nearby Muenster's German Catholic Roots, the town of Lindsey is the home of Saint Peters Church. The breathtakingly beautiful church is one of the 27 recognized Painted Churches of Texas, the only one in North Texas.. Its history includes near complete destruction by a tornado in 1917 and its miraculous recovery.
